Using external serial Item codes for the purpose of identifying items

Overview

Clients will be given the option to use their own external item codes for itemizing products instead of using Increff WMS generated Item IDs. These Item Codes can be scanned in the screens / inputs where Item IDs are required.

Enabling of External Item Code Configuration

To use External Item Codes, the corresponding configuration must be enabled for the instance. This is done by setting the WMS isExternalItemCodeBased.enabled property for which the customer success team must be contacted. When this configuration is enabled, Item Codes must be provided in all relevant inputs in WMS. 

⚠️ Note: For clients with the Item Code configuration enabled, the Item Code must be inputted in all screens where the Item’s ID is required. While displaying item details as well, the system will display the corresponding Item Codes on the User Interface.

Mapping Item Codes to SKUs during GRN

During GRN, if External Item Code configuration is enabled, the user will be required to scan the External Item Code for the item during GRN. No Item ID stickers will be generated for such cases.

With the configuration disabled, Item ID sticker generation will happen automatically.

Mapping Item Codes to SKUs before GRN

Before GRN, the mapping of Item Codes to their corresponding SKUs can be done using the Item Code Mapping screen under Inward category in WMS.

Once the mapping is done, during GRN, the Skip EAN / Client SKU ID Scan while GRN configuration can be turned ON and the Client SKU scan can be skipped during the GRN process.

⚠️ Note: For uploading Item Codes of perishable SKUs, the Batch ID corresponding to the items must also be provided in the CSV file.

⚠️ Note: If the Skip EAN / Client SKU ID Scan while GRN configuration is disabled in GRN screen, the SKU will have to be re-scanned even if the SKU-Item Code mapping has previously been uploaded. In case there is a mismatch in the mapped SKU, an error message will be shown.

Item Auditing

For instances where External Item Code configuration is enabled, Item Auditing will be done using External Item Codes. For instances where the configuration is disabled, Item Auditing will continue to be done using the Internal Item IDs.

User Interface Changes

• The field Item ID is renamed as Item Code irrespective of the value of External Item Code Configuration.

• The Item Code field accepts any value (not restricted to only Numbers) without any leading / trailing whitespaces.

• In case of External Item Code Configuration = TRUE:

  • Stickering Item screen is removed.

  • Item Code Mapping screen is present under the Inward section.

  • Option to Reprint Item Sticker in Printer Settings is removed.

  • Option to Configure Item Sticker in Printer Settings screen is removed.

• Changes in Item stickers in case of External Item Code Configuration = FALSE:

  • The sticker title of all Item stickers is renamed as ITEM CODE

  • The sticker title of Reprinted-Item stickers is renamed as REPRINTED ITEM CODE
