You can find a summary of the features in this tutorial – including the shortcut commands – in the Confluence Cloud Product Guide.

Emojis

Use emojis to grab attention, lighten the mood, or express yourself. Type : followed by the name of the emoji you want to add and another :.

Some of our favorites are 😄 (), (heart) (), and 🔥 (:fire:)!

Try it now 👇

Add your favorite emojis below with the : shortcut. Not sure which emoji to use? Tap the smiley-face icon (smile) in the formatting bar at the top of the editor to explore what's available, or even add your own custom emojis!

Use the : shortcut to find and add emojis here

Show off your personality with a page title emoji. Just hover over the title, then select Add emoji to find your favorite one.

Files & Images

No one wants to read a big wall of text. Type /image to upload an image, video, or other file and add it to your page.

Try it now 👇

Add a screenshot to test it out! Type /image below to upload one from your computer, then select Open to add it to the page. Then, you can select the image to resize it, annotate it, adjust alignment or wrapping, add a link or alt text, or remove it from the page.

Use the /image shortcut to upload a screenshot from your computer

You can add a header image to your page, as well — just hover over the page title, then select Add header image to select a header image from your computer.

Action Items, Dates, & Status Labels

Stay on top of your tasks with action items you can check off.

To add an action item to a page:

  1. Type [] + Space or /action on an empty line. A handy checkbox will appear.

  2. Add a description of the task next to the checkbox.

  3. Add the due date (type /date or //) and the current status (type /status), and voilà! ✨

Try it now 👇

Type /action into the blank area on the right of the layout below, then match the description, date, and status of the example on the left.

  • Get Christmas gifts for the kids by NOT STARTED

Use the /action, /date, and /status shortcuts to recreate the sample action item on the left

When you finish the task, just check the box. It works the same whether you're viewing or editing.

Panels

Use panels to callout important information, each with its own color and icon combination: info (blue (info) ), note (purple (blue star)), success (green (tick)), warning (yellow (warning)), and error (red (error)).

Try it now 👇

Type /panel into the blank area on the right of the layout below, then select the panel that most closely matches the panel on the left side to recreate it.

Use the /panel shortcut to recreate the error panel on the left

Expands

Not everyone needs a deep dive. Put numbers and complex details in an expand so they don't distract from your main point. Just type /expand to add one.

Try it now 👇

Create an expand using the text from the left-hand side of the layout below. Use the bold text as a title, and put the steps in the body of the expand, then type ⌘+Shift+E to preview how the expand will look and behave on the published page.

How to add an expand

  1. Type /expand, then hit enter to add an expand to the page.

  2. Enter the text you'd like to hide into the body of the expand.

  3. Enter a title so people know what they'll find if they open it.

Advanced features

There's so much more to the Confluence editor than we can show you in this tutorial, but don't fret — it's easy to find advanced features. Just type / into the editor to see a list of elements, and scroll or use the arrow keys to browse. Once you find one you want to try, hit Enter to add it to the page.

Here are just a few more of the many powerful elements you can add to your page:

  • Table of contents (/toc)

  • Code snippet (/code snippet)

  • Jira issues (/jira issue), charts (/jira chart), and roadmaps (/jira roadmap)

You can also use markdown to quickly format text. To see a list of available markdown commands, check out our documentation.
